Questions:
Do I run the ERV on full or half speed 24 hours a day?
Answer
Typically, the ERV or HRV are run at half speed 24 hours a day and often have a boost switch option to boost them up to full speed when more ventilation is required.
How many watts does an ERV draw?
Answer
Typically around 50 W. This is a low watt draw appliance.
Are there filters to change?
Answer
There are filters to change. You should check those filters every 3 to 6 months. That’s why we call it Fresh filtered air distribution.
Can I use standard flex duct to duct to the outside and duct from the ERV to the manifold?
Answer
You can use standard flex duct, and often in 6 inch diameter. You can always do it with hard pipe as well.
Can I measure airflow per room once the system is installed?
Answer
You can measure the airflow per room per location of supply or exhaust using a flow hood and a manometer.
Why is separate ventilation better than tied in to my existing heating and cooling system?
Answer
A standalone ventilation system with distribution can be measured as mentioned above. The airflow rate can be controlled at the diffuser boot. If we only connect the ERV to the existing heating and cooling system we will never be able to tell how much air is delivered inside those large ducts. It is truly impossible to measure.
